(12:58 PM) | Adam Kotsko:
Fair and Balanced
As per this post by Tom Tomorrow, I am changing the description of my blog to "Fair and Balanced" until Fox News drops its spurious lawsuit against Al Franken. I grow weary of the idea that such common words as "fair and balanced" are the irrevocable property of a person or organization. Guess what, guys -- if you want to use human language to get your point across, you're opening yourself up to the possibility of parody.
For a fun exploration of copyright issues from a French perspective, I recommend Jacques Derrida's little book Limited Inc. The first essay is one of his clearest and best, in my opinion, and his response to a critic is simply hilarious. Yet another triumph by everyone's favorite cantankerous Jew.
