(8:22 PM) | Adam Kotsko:
Thank God for Jared Sinclair
Jared Sinclair, primary caretaker of a house falling in the sea, has taken upon himself the burden of designing and administering the new homepage for the University without Condition. Beyond that, he has divested me of the need to maintain the "Quick Links" and "Commonplace Book" on my own personal site, freeing me to radically redesign. If you all think it's hideous and needs to go, please let me know -- but I can at least content myself that it can't possibly be as bad as the trainwreck over at Matthew Yglesias's site.
You should all be glad that I still have too much stuff to do, or else it would be two hours later and I'd be regaling you about how I rewrote my entire template from scratch to make it "standards compliant" or "pure CSS -- no tables" or some such bullshit. As it stands, my template is probably about as sloppy as they come -- styles defined but never used, br tags used too indiscriminately to solve problems I didn't really understand, etc., etc.
Adam Robinson was basically right in the comments below that I would want to maintain my own personal space alongside the University without Condition. Of course, The Weblog will remain a group blog until my co-bloggers quit, because if I weren't profiting off the labors of others while keeping them from reaching their full potential in their own name, I wouldn't be a man -- and I certainly wouldn't be Adam Kotsko.
(I do note that the University without Condition site itself is probably well on its way to having fifteen contributors, although Jared has chosen, I think wisely, to list contributors by website rather than by individual names.)
