(6:18 PM) | Adam Kotsko:
Bush as Zoolander
On the way home, I heard a segment on NPR in which President Bush was repeating virtually the same things he had repeatedly said throughout his very repetitious performance in his debate, except that he had an adoring audience punctuating everything he said -- booing when he pointed out Kerry's "inconsistencies," shouting "NO!" when he asked if soldiers were dying for a mistake, etc. That's the kind of audience Bush has faced throughout most of his presidency, and he was obviously much more comfortable in that setting. It made me wonder -- if he loses in November, will we see some kind of world-scale version of the scene from Zoolander where he doesn't even listen to the announcement of who wins the fashion award and ends up embarrassing himself on stage? I know that Will Ferrell is the canonical Bush impersonator, but maybe we need to try watching Zoolander while thinking of George W. Bush. For instance, someone sets up a model of one of the new Iraqi army bases, and Bush throws it to the ground -- "What is this, an army base for ants?! It would have to be three times the size!"
