Pledge Drive
In honor of Chicago Public Radio's current pledge drive, we here at The Weblog are running a pledge drive. More accurately, I am running a pledge drive for myself, because all the money coming into this site comes out of my pocket. That's right -- the hosting costs, the name registration costs that allow us to have a mnemonic URL, all has to come from somewhere, and that somewhere is me. Admittedly, the total price comes to under $100 a year, such that I don't even notice it when they occasionally take it out of my credit card, but I think that rather than me financially supporting my own personal hobby, my readers, who are as poor as or poorer than me, should do so.You read this site, you enjoy it, you've come to rely on it -- now you can be an even bigger part of it by supporting it. That's right, just click on the PayPal link and type in an amount. It can be a small amount -- for instance, $500 -- or it could be a very large amount. The key here is not the amount of money. We're not about that. We're about getting people involved.
We're very excited about the things that have been happening at The Weblog, we love our work, and we love our readers and want them to participate in our essential work. You've come to rely on us for our exciting theologico-political debates, for our theme weeks, and for our sheer zaniness. We've recently added F. Winston Codpiece III, Kamala the Ugandan Giant, and everyone's favorite: anti-anti-Kamala. You read the site, you enjoy it, you've made it a part of your day. And your week! Who would want to face a week without the Friday Afternoon Confessional?
We're not trying to guilt you or anything! If you don't support our site, we will continue to offer our great posts, free of charge to everyone. We don't want to imply at all that this site will be shut down if you don't contribute. But actually if that's going to get you to pledge: yes, this site will be absolutely shut down without your support. Through the use of Google ads, we've been able to run a slight surplus this past fiscal year, but what with the economy and everything, we don't know if that will be enough of a "cushion." That's why we need your support. You enjoy the site, you read it, you've come to rely on it, you've made it a part of your day....
[This was a parody of an NPR pledge drive, not a sincere request for pledges.]
