Being and Event Reading Group and Week.
Badiou's Being and Event has finally been published in English after a long year wait from the time it was supposed to be published. Badiou's philosophy is shaping up to be a major force in the English speaking world and no one can deny that there is a burgeoning "Badiou-ism" forming in some major areas. This book appears to be something we will have to deal with, either as adherents or antagonists. What I'm purposing is that we read it together and after finishing devote a week to more substantial responses. I'm thinking that Wednesdays could be devoted to the discussion starting in three weeks (February 8th February 15th) and continuing until March 29th. The discussions will cover a certain section of the book (I'm holding off on making that schedule until we see the amount of interest we have first), with a volunteer starting off the discussion with a main page post (those not already holding posting powers would be added for this single post). The week following the 29th (April 5th-11th) would be the blog equivalent of our final papers. I guess, in a way, this can be a further exercise in the University without Condition in spite of its apparent failure. So, any takers?
On a related note, does anyone know if the picture to the left is making fun of the Deleuze picture that is always made fun of?
