Home for the heteronomous | "Get a job — and some human rights!" Thursday, June 01, 2006(4:58 PM) | Old - Doug Johnson: Beer and Pingpong Update (d): Non-religious Collectives?Ahh, yes, the main thing I'd been wanting to ask for a while: Am fairly familiar with the current scene of Christian collectives, but am wondering about other, especially non-religious collectives. Anyone have some directions to point me? I'm familiar with the fact that the great majority of Kibbutzim were originally secular (still the case?). I also know a very little bit about a chain of collectives in Madison, WI as we looked into them briefly when we thought we might wind up there for J.'s doctoral work. Assuming S.F. has a few along the same lines. There is at least one collective living arrangement here in Toronto that has no religious ties as far as I know. The people there are heavily involved with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty (OCAP) which was involved in a protest turned riot at Queen's Park (Ontario's provincial government) in June of 2000. Others? |
