Is bin Laden dead?
Via Crooked Timber, I learn of a report in the French newspaper L’Est Republicain indicating that bin Laden has died of typhoid. (This New York Times story casts some doubt on the report and also summarizes the French article.)Thankfully, this is a little-read blog, so hopefully no swing voters in Ohio will be alienated by what I'm about to say: I hope this is true, because this is far preferable to a situation where American or allied troops would have captured or killed bin Laden and Bush would've been able to take credit for it. Somehow, "We isolated him so that he would slowly die due to lack of medical attention" just doesn't sound as heroic and decisive as "We tracked down and killed the fucker."
