(9:04 PM) | Adam Kotsko:
Oh, to be a Catholic
I attended my first meeting of the Adult Education Committee at Maternity BVM tonight, and I was surprised by thier focus and their energy in terms of providing educational programs to the parish. I confessed at the end of the meeting that I was not very much in tune with Catholic people my own age, due to my unusual circumstances, and they said that they were just worried about people my own age, not just Catholics. They wanted to provide opportunities for all interested parties to come and learn about what the Catholic Church has to offer (and I promise, not just to recruit new bodies).
Thus, I would like to put my comments section into overtime: all my Protestant and agnostic buddies need to let me know the kinds of programs that would interest them enough that they'd get off their butt and go to a Catholic church to hear about it. The current program that dominated most of our meeting was based on the idea of reconciliation. One future idea that was floated was something about Christology. I'm sure that topics such as spirituality, prayer, church history, liturgy, social justice, or whatever else is relevant to the Catholic Church would be inbounds.
If my comments aren't working, please e-mail me with some ideas. Look at it as a contribution to an effort to create more opportunities for hot young spiritual seekers to meet and interact.
