The Final Count
I have finally heard from all my schools. Here is the count, in chronological order.Nottingham (Theology): Accepted (I deferred).
Duke (Literature/Hardto-Negrian Studies): Rejected.
University of Chicago Divinity School: Rejected.
Chicago Theological Seminary: Accepted.
New School University (Philosophy): Accepted (I declined).
DePaul University (Philosophy): Rejected.
Vanderbilt University (Theology): Accepted off the wait list, just tonight.
(Vanderbilt actually sent me a rejection letter right after U of C did, then e-mailed me a week later to inform me that I was on the waiting list. It was an excellent character-building exercise for me.)
So, realistic options: Vanderbilt and CTS. Vanderbilt is offering me a full tuition scholarship, with some vague possibility of a further stipend; CTS has never given a scholarship to a PhD student in the history of the institution. I'm trying not to just let money make my decision for me, and I'm quite surprised at how non-automatic it feels.
I should make my decision within the next few days, then.
