(3:06 AM) | Adam Kotsko:
The Police Are Out in Force
Tonight I saw around 25 police cars in the course of my trip to Kankakee and back for a poker game. One of them turned out to have been this car that was totally riding my ass, which I thought was ridiculous because I was already going 80 -- then when he passed me on the right, I noticed it was a state police car, trying to get around me, apparently because of some bigger deal down the way. He met three other police cars in a weigh station. There were five police cars patrolling southbound I-57 and at least one patrolling the other direction. I saw one patrolling on the way home as well. There was a police car parked a block away from the house I was visiting in Kankakee. On my way home, I saw 10-15 police cars all around Western and Armitage, together with some kind of emergency vehicle. I wasn't sure what was going on there, and all I could find on the radio were old Phil Collins songs. I saw two other police cars on the way down Armitage, then one on my road.I arrived home at 3am because everyone was betting too timidly and we got a late start. I ended up breaking even, money-wise, but I feel like I came out ahead overall because I got a parking spot really close to our place at 3am, and because I was going 80 with a state cop on my ass and didn't get pulled over.
This struck me as the kind of thing one blogs very late at night.
