Introduction
Hello everyone, my name is Aryeh. My last name is not really Rafah, but I feel I belong there as much as Tel Aviv or New York.I appreciate the chance to write here from time to time - I know this blog has a large and well-educated audience. I don't know much about religion or literature, but those topics seem well covered here anyway. I do follow politics, finance, and pop culture, so I might write about those things if that's okay.
Happy May Day. There is an old Russian man in my building who always greets everyone on 1 May with a few bars from the Internationale. This year when I met him I responded in kind, and we stood there in the foyer for a minute humming together. It was almost beautiful, but also frail and maybe even tragic: he and his history are pretty surely irrelevant now, and I am well on my way there. An indulgent counterpoint to the urgent protests going on outside.
