Has "different from" now officially been replaced by "different than"?I used to think that the latter was used because it provided a more economical way of using "different" with a dependent clause -- for example, "It was different than I thought" is much simpler than "It was different from how I thought it would be." Now, however, it seems that even with simple nouns, one hardly ever hears "different from."
Am I totally making this up?
