(1:53 PM) | Adam Kotsko:
Texas Republicans Are Actually Insane
Here is a post from CalPundit discussing the platform of the Texas Republican Party. He notes that Texas Republicans George W. Bush, Tom DeLay, and Karl Rove are currently in control of our government, and he laments the fact that the Republican party is heading in the direction of eliminating judicial review, abolishing Social Security, dismantling the welfare state entirely, abolishing the federal income tax, making abortion illegal by constitutional amendment, and, of course, abolishing the Federal Reserve and returning to the gold standard. He has the California Democratic Platform from the same year, for comparison with the other end of the spectrum.
My question is, if they eliminate the federal income tax, then how are they going to finance all those cool wars? I think the Nobel committee was clearly trying to send a message by giving the Peace Prize to an Iranian this year: we need to invade so as to give those people a chance at freedom. Will our president show the resolve and courage necessary to liberate another nation from tyrrany? Will he be able to cut taxes enough so that the additional revenue (generated by cutting taxes, remember) can cover the costs of this moral imperative? I'd like to hear the Texas Republicans address this issue.
