(10:02 AM) | Adam Kotsko:
On the intellectual agenda
[updated]
- Augustine
- Continental political theory (Arendt, Schmitt, Benjamin...)
- Greek, French, German (Hebrew? Latin?)
Contemporary physics (with no speculation about the "implications," spiritual or otherwise, thereof)- Classical music, more of (this is what I had in mind when formulating this post; when writing, however, my mind went blank, and I put "physics" in order to save face before myself)
Not on the agenda:
- Luther, Calvin (one lecture was enough)
- The Federalist Papers, Constitutional Law, John Rawls
- Buddhism, mystical theology
- Cognitive psychology
The question is how to escape the horizon of America and of Protestantism, without defaulting to "the French" and thus failing to escape the horizon of America.
(I'm starting to wonder if John Milbank might not be as bad as I think, gratuitous philosopher-bashing aside.)
