MSN Search Sucks (Updated)
We here at The Weblog do not often get referals from MSN Search. When we do, however, it is usually ridiculous. For instance, as of right now we are way up in the top ten for "stalin's dictatorship," on the strength of the appearance of the word "Stalin's" in this post and the appearance of the word "dictatorship" in Old's first post for Sovereignty Week -- a post that has now scrolled off the bottom. We are the second result for "catholic Christian list of duties" because at one point, all the words in the search appeared on the front page (our showing for "list" is especially strong and is probably what accounts for such a high ranking). We also apparently discuss "mamas jokes" -- because I mentioned in my confessional that some people's "mamas never made them do anything around the house" and Kamala said that Cecil B. Rhodes doesn't make "jokes." Kamala gets full credit for our third-place ranking for "commodity fetishism"; we are beaten out only by an encyclopedia article on the topic and a site on Egyptian Commodity Fetishism. It seems as though users of MSN are stuck in those dark days of the early nineties, when you would type something into the search engine and count yourself fortunate if an obliquely relevant page came up within the first hundred results.
On Google, The Weblog is the top result for Adam Kotsko, Robb Schuneman, old - Doug Johnson, and F. Winston Codpiece III. None of the other contributors even show up. I once tried "Anthony Smith," and I gave up after about five pages of results. I guess there is an academic and a country singer by that name.
UPDATE: We are now the #3 MSN search result for "buttfuck", due to my earlier reference to a lonely blogger from "Buttfuck, Idaho." I'm sure that this post will push us to #1! Huzzah!
