Home for the heteronomous | "Get a job — and some human rights!" Saturday, April 16, 2005(1:55 PM) | Adam Kotsko: Staying on Message on Discover the NetworkAt the end of the day, the only important objection to "Discover the Network" is that it equates the left end of the political spectrum with Islamic terrorism. That is it. Complaining about little details is completely playing into Horowitz's hands by obscuring the main point: no one on the American left has any possible connection to Islamic terrorism. No Islamic terrorist would regard the Democratic Party or Bill Clinton or Noam Chomsky as an ally, nor is anyone in the Democratic Party or the tiny cadre of radical leftists in this country going to take up the cause of Islamic terrorism; in point of fact, there are plenty of leftists who have signed up with Bush's war on terrorism (Hitchens, for example). If you want to deal with the fact that moderate liberals are being tarred in together with radical professors, fine -- do that after, and only after you've gotten him to renounce the terrible slander of claiming some kind of alliance between Radical Islamic terrorism and everyone to the left of Joe Lieberman. Let's stay on message here! |
