(9:54 AM) | Adam Kotsko:
A small island, north of Europe, full of hateful people
That was how Simon Critchley described Great Britain yesterday in his précis of the British philosophical establishment's shameful conduct toward Derrida (whose penis my friend claims to have seen). One benefit of being British, however, is that they often get better, or at least different, book cover designs. While reading this review, which I have no particular plans of finishing, I gathered that the appearance of Hardt and Negri's Multitude was somewhat different from the American edition; indeed, a quick trip to Amazon.co.uk verified my suspicions:This is in stark contrast with the American cover, which looks like a damn Left Behind book:
Let us also note that the Amazon UK site is still using the "classic" Amazon interface, while the American site is indulging in a variety of spurious "improvements," such as a separate pop-up window for larger images of covers -- for those of us who never learned how to use the "back" button on our web browsers, presumably. Just for fun, here's the French cover:
And the German:
Those wily Krauts seem to have secured the best cover.
