Apparently madelines, at least if they're properly made, do not crumble when dipped in tea.Luckily, the possible corresponding disintegration of the entire Western canon is checked in the comments, which just goes to show how important it is to read things in the original, or at least to have access to a first-rate translation.
Because you just can't rely on your memory.
