Wednesday, May 11, 2005(9:33 AM) | Adam Kotsko: Rwandan Debts Partly CancelledAccording to Le Monde, the Paris Club group of creditors has cancelled its portion of Rwanda's foreign debt. (The only English source I could find on the first page of a Google News search was this brief article in Forbes.) From what I can tell, this represents at best a 10% forgiveness of Rwanda's foreign debt, but hopefully other creditor nations will follow this example. The Paris Club is also discussing other nations' debts, particularly those in the former Soviet bloc -- let's hope that this is the beginning of a trend. |
