Silence of the Spams
Does anyone know why The Weblog would be getting hit by a ton of spam lately? Thankfully, it's all showing up on old posts -- in fact, only three posts seem to be affected. Still, it's disheartening that every time I let the comments go unattended for over an hour, there are at least ten spam comments to clean out. Lately, when I wake up in the morning, I have thirty or more.I suppose I could just let it go since it's not affecting current threads, but if I give them an inch, I worry they'll take the proverbial "mile."
In general, the format seems to be: "Nice site -- want some viagra?" It's like some asshole guy at a party walking up to a woman he's never met and saying, "Hey, how are you doing? But anyway, are we gonna fuck or what?"
UPDATE: Two unrelated questions --
- First, who is it that is sitting down and writing corporate profiles for Wikipedia? Is there some insider at Thailand's biggest retail conglomerate shaving a few minutes off his lunch break to make sure his company is well-represented? (I'm doing market research this week, if you wonder how I came across this.)
- Second, why does my left thumb hurt so much? General pain throughout the wrists and hands I can understand, but this is really focused on the left thumb.
UPDATE (2): There used to be a time in my life when I couldn't find a bookmark to save my life -- now I'm so overwhelmed by the number of bookmarks in my house that I'm using the backs of them as disposable notepads.
