Everybody in the UK get your preferably DVD recording equipment ready before another Adam Curtis documentary (The Century of the Self, The Power of Nightmares) gets confined to the grainy realm of YouTube and urban folklore. He has returned with The Trap: What Happened to Our Dreams of Freedom. Through the Rand Corporation, studies of the Yanomami, the Milgram Experiments, the Stanford Prison Experiment and more, it looks like we're going to get a look at how passive freedom - the core ideal of postwar liberalism - both shifted and developed through the Cold War and beyond to create what the film's blurb calls "a new system of invisible control."
