So, it looks like The Draft is on its way back.
I knew there was a reason why I hadn't lost all this weight yet - at least, I've heard that if you run a 16 minute mile they won't send you over seas..but come to think of it, there's always the lovable fat guy in all the war movies..I mean..come on..tell me Bubba from Forrest Gump was doing 4 minute miles and 200 push ups and other supposed requirements. I think I'm screwed, if not all of us.
Then again..I do have like..20-120 vision..and quite possibly Glaucoma..I'm not the guy you want to give a gun...I guess I am perfectly suited to be cannon fodder though.
This definitely bumps ICS higher on my list of grad school hopefuls. Really I guess it bumps all grad school possibilities up, as going to grad school and then on to a PHD would keep me from any war under 6+ years long.
That or I can always join the National Guard instead...
That is..I could do both of those common options..except they've been taken out of the rules for any upcoming draft...so I think I'm back to being screwed along with the rest of the nation.
Sorry to be un-American..I'm simply horrified and scared, as most everyone should be. And before you send me hate mail, consider that our vice-president avoided the war with grad school, and our president with the National Guard. I don't say this to take away from them anything, just to say that maybe it's not so crazy to be scared bile-less by these same people sending me, of all people, out, without the loopholes they used.
