Commemorating 9/11, or "Patriot Day"
My calendar says that today -- coincidentally, also the fourth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks -- is "Patriot Day." As we know, the only possible way to express patriotic feelings is through militarism, and as we also know, "President" Bush is trying to make up for lost military time by hanging out with soldiers at all times. I think that this "Patriot Day," he needs to take the next step. As we are constantly reminded, Bush is "our Commander-in-Chief," but sadly, in the American tradition, that position has rung somewhat hollow: not since James Madison in the war of 1812 has a president ever directly commanded troops on the battlefield. Now Bush has a chance to reverse that trend. Imagine how the sagging morale of the troops would skyrocket if "our Commander-in-Chief" personally led the next offensive against Fallujah! We already know the guy looks good in military fatigues -- just imagine how cool he would look holding an actual firearm! We could pay down the federal debt through action figure sales alone! I don't think that anything bad could possibly result from this plan.
